Dear [MP NAME]

Thank you so much for meeting with me at the Mass Lobby last week. I am really grateful you took the time to speak with me about the devastating impact that the EHRC’s draft guidance is likely to have on trans people [and anyone else you said might be impacted, eg disabled people, cis women, gays and lesbians, businesses etc.].

I remain very concerned about [a very brief summary of what you raised with your MP here, just enough to rejig their memory].

This is why this draft code of practice cannot become law. MPs like you have the power to stop this. As your constituent, I am asking you to take the following actions:

  1. Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities, asking her to confirm that she will not lay guidance which mandates the exclusion of trans people before Parliament

  2. Write to Bridget Phillipson and ask that the EHRC guidance be considered via affirmative rather than negative procedure, so that it can be properly debated before it is made statutory

  3. Raise the issue in the House, especially via the Women and Equalities and Joint Human Rights Select Committees

[Delete this next section if your MP did not say anything positive]

When we met, you told me that [you were an ally to trans people/that you believe in protecting trans people’s human rights/etc. - make it personal and specific]

That’s why I hope you will take action now, when it matters most.

I would like to reiterate my thanks for your meeting with me. I know you have a busy schedule, and your time is valuable. Please let me know if you will be taking any action on this issue, and know that I am happy to meet at any time to discuss these issues more with you.

Many thanks,

Dear [MP Name]

Last week, over 900 people took part in a Mass Lobby for trans rights, against draft EHRC guidance which — if it were to become statutory — would implement a mandatory trans bathroom ban in this country, making the UK an international outlier on human rights. Trans people and their allies went into Parliament to tell MPs about the devastating impact this guidance would have on the lives of trans people, and many others in this country.

Sadly, we weren't able to meet as [I green carded but you weren't available/I couldn't get inside due to the enormous queue/I couldn't find you at our appointment time/etc.]. As your constituent, I would like to talk to you directly about the impact it is likely to have on [me/the people I care about/the trans community]. Would this be possible?

Please let me know when it would be best for us to meet.

Many thanks,
